UPDATE: Humboldt County to lose power at 5 p.m. on Saturday

UPDATE 12:30 P.M.: According to the Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services, the PG&E power shutoff is now expected to begin at 5 p.m. tonight.

They advise to not wait to get what you need. It’s being reported that gas stations, ATMs and grocery stores are already running low on certain supplies.

According to PG&E, times may change (earlier or later) dependent on weather.

Humboldt County is expected to lose power at 7 p.m. on Saturday, according to PG&E. 

“Given the forecast and the historical nature, we are preparing for what it’s likely going to be a widespread safety power shutoff throughout our service territory, to combat the risk of a catastrophic wildfire,” Sumeet Singh said, the Vice President of the Community Wildfire Safety Program, during a press conference earlier this evening.

“We have not made the final determination yet to move forward… We will have that decision at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday,” Singh said. 

The power shutoffs could impact 850,000 customers throughout 36 counties. 

PG&E said times are subject to change. Customers should prepare for an outage that can last up to 48 hours or longer.
