Language change: “Latine” instead of “Latinx”
Dear El Leñador Readers,
We would like to inform you that going forward, we will be using the term Latine to refer to people from Latin American countries and descendancy. We are neither the first nor the last newspaper to make this change, language is a tool that adapts and changes to the needs of society. This will make the use of plural statements easier to talk about groups of Latine folk and also to include transgender and nonbinary folks into the language. Amidst these changes, we will be updating our language usage in our formal style guide.
Exceptions to this will be for the name of organizations and in direct quotations.
Thank you for your readership,
Sincerely,
El Leñador Staff
