Arcata Playhouse holding Zero to Fierce:
An Event to Highlight Creative Women in Humboldt County
On March 3 -12, the Arcata Playhouse will be holding the 7th annual Zero to Fierce Festival, an event to highlight female artists from the community. It will begin with a prologue on March 3 and 4, with an all-female sax quartet called The Tiptons.
On March 5, the festival officially commences with an art show, two punk bands, and fire dancing on Sunday. This will be followed by a Walk In Nature on the morning of March 6 at 8:30 a.m.
The speaking event on each weekday will be from 12-1 p.m. at the Arcata Playhouse. The Women in the Arts committee will speak on March 6. Tykeshia Leschke will discuss the importance of black and brown doulas on March 7.
March 8 will feature speakers from Centro Del Pueblo, who will discuss maternity stories of migrant indigenous women. The discussion will focus on Queer Stories on March 9. March 10 discussion will focus on missing and murdered indigenous women.
The festival finale will commence on March 11, which will include activities, theater, and music from an all-female mariachi band, with festivities beginning at 10 a.m. and the last event starting at 8 p.m.
On March 12 there is an epilogue event consisting of a BBQ potluck at the Arcata Playhouse.
